WiMax has been officially launched by Clearwire Corporation in Atlanta on 16th June 2009. It was launched in the largest city so that it may provide its services to big 80 US markets till the end of year 2010.
WiMax services are basically wireless internet services which are available to about 3 million people in the Atlanta city. The download speed varies from 4Mb/sec to 6 Mb/sec. Some of the users say that they even found download speed near to 9Mb/sec.
An analyst from Atlanta noticed about this service that it ends outside the city. Due to this reason, Clearwire’s success totally depends upon the marketing of their services. The prices of the services range from $10 to $20 per month for home and office users, and for mobile users, its price is up to $40.
Clearwire launched WiMax service in Portland, Oregon, and Baltimore before Atlanta. Their plan is to launch this service in eight cities by the end of year 2010. These launches are the part of ambitious plan of Clearwire to launch in 80 markets by the end of year 2010.
The Intel Corporation is a Clearwire investor. Clearwire and Inter Corporporation will announce plans for including WiMax on those laptops which run Intel Centrino 2 processors and also for notebooks that are based on Intel Atom Processors in summer 2009 at the launching event. These notebooks will be used in public schools at Atlanta. Clearwire is also launching a modem for WiMax and Sprint’s 3G networks in this summer.
