Lithium batteries are disposable batteries which consist of lithium metal or compounds in the form of an anode. On the basis of the chemical compounds used within it the lithium cells can actually produce a voltage from about 1.5V to about 3.7V. This is twice the voltage that would be of an ordinary zinc carbon battery or even an alkaline cell. These kinds of batteries are widely used in products such as portable consumer electronic devices. The common lithium batteries used for the consumer applications generally uses metallic lithium as an anode and also manganese dioxide as the cathode. This has a salt of lithium dissolved within the organic solvent.
The best substitutes for the normal everyday alkaline batteries are these lithium batteries among many devices like clocks and cameras. Lithium batteries are much more expensive in comparison to the usual batteries but then again the advantage is that these batteries give out a really long life and also at the same time minimizing the battery replacement quite heavily.
Electronic devices such as PDA’s watches thermometers and also calculators use the small lithium batteries as they are the common ones. They are found in different shapes and sizes and are available in huge quantities. They can be the 3 volt type manganese variety or the usual 20MM in diameter and up to 4mm thick. If these batteries were to short circuit by any chance they will lose their charge as fast. Lithium batteries are much more resourceful and productive for small electrical equipments.
